Driving in the streets of cairo is a very unique experience and also a very frustrating one.
It is really tricky, hard and if looked at from an optimistic perspective can feel like an adventure. It's all about getting from point A to point B with the least damage and the least traffic jams. Beleive me, it's not that simple.
If someone can make a game out of it, I'm sure it'll be a hit. WellI thought of it and will try to put some description of the game principles
Cars
Cars vary between 1950 god knows what to latest most expensive cars to big monsters like the hummer. The player should start with a moderate car, say a Hyundai Elantra 2008 -which is the most common new car, and we will exclude chinese cars from the game- Then at later stages as progresses he can get to more advanced cars, such as the chevrolet optra, then a mistubishi lancer or a VW cross fox, then later on a VW golf going all the way to the jaguar, the volvo and the mercedes. If he at some point trashes his car, he would have to buy a new one, and some older models should be available as used cars for less money, such as a peugeot 1980 505 or a citroen ZX/Xsara going down to FIAT 128 or a 1950 car.
Tracks
The streets have some characteristics to define their level.
- Traffic: areas like new-cairo are less crowded, other areas like downtown are better suited for turtles than human, and is very crowded.
- Speed: speed limit within city limits is 60Km/h and outside city limits is 100Km/h some roads have 80-90Km/h such as the ring road. some areas would have a speed radar and some don't, basically a more open space/less crowded would have one while high traffic areas wouldn't.
- Violence: Well violence will be in two aspects, the first is the how aggressive the other cars toward you while driving. Some people in cairo are known to be very aggressive to those who dare pass them, even if they are not in a hurry. Second aspect how aggressive the other drivers are when you hit their cars, some would settle for an apologie in areas such as heliopolis or zamalek while others won't settle for less than blood.
Goal
- One mood of the game could be a transporter mood (like the movie transporter) the driver takes a package at point A and delivers it to point B, the driver has to examine the map which shows several possible routes and shortcuts to be able to determine its path and has teh ability to change course at any point depending on traffic conditions. The delivery has limits on time and state of the transported object. some pbjects may be breakables and some other may be VIP personel who would not appreciate reckless driving. Upon succesfull delivery the driver gets his pay.
- The car has to have the least damage possible, remember that the car cost money and accidents may lead engine damage which have to be fixed (costs money and time) also some clients would care for the looks of the driver and his car.
That's it for now more to come later.
Fascinating topic
I've written about it myself, and still waiting to pick it up again: http://infojunkie.dyndns.org/node/200
