Mac OSX

my laptop had some sort of a power failure and it is currently at the service center, so i got my self a macBook as a temp solution

my first impression:

* wow cool a mac !
* looks so elegant and slim, clear crisp screen, desktop looks cool with some nice effects and window decoration
* in general it looks good - sexy ;)

after 1 day:

* i can't tell what those guys thought when they did not include a right-mouse click!
* where is the del button? ah fn+Backspace ! is that really smart?
* the command button is not bad but i still can't see that the mac keyboard/mouse are more usable than the regular ones
* I still am so amazed by the looks of both the HW and the desktop
* wireless crap started
o at the office it was working but when at home, it just doesn't connect to my wep wifi. ok so maybe it doesn't play nice with wep, no problem i changed my home wifi to wap. still no connection
o forums show that there are a lot of frustrated users like me. and yet no action from apple's side.
o one guy suggested to remove security from the wifi and try and if it connects then restore encryption and try again. crap! it worked.

after 3 days:

* The taskbar is really confusing, actually the whole document centric interface is confusing.
* i can't live without the virtual desktops, it gets very crowded
* basic tools are not present (svn, wget, irc lclient, useradd, ...)
* although the desktop is cool, but it is not highly customizable like linux
* add beryl to linux and you get a better desktop
* i miss my linux
* no apt-get/yum like utility
* package management is still a mystery to me
* i miss my linux

bottom line
i still haven't used the apple applications, but so far i like the HW but not the OS
some things i can get used to like the keyboard and mouse but others like the desktop/taskbar just doesn't make sense
performance so far is good, although it is only has 512 MB of RAM

if i ever had to chose between linux and OSX i would definitely pick linux, and between OSX and Window$ i definitely take OSX
